The MDC Studio Established in Baltimore
The Maryland Development Center Partnership is pleased to announce the formation of the MDC Studio - Baltimore. The Studio is the first of several planned by the Partnership. MDC Studio - Baltimore will focus on medical technology, taking over the existing portfolio of MDC client companies.
MDC Studio - Baltimore will provide engineering, business development, mentoring, and back office services to the portfolio companies. It is available for investment by those interested in an early look at MDC client companies.
Gil Blankenship, MDC's Founder, is serving as CEO of the Studio. MDC Partners Stephen Restaino and Jonathan Pearl are helping with management of the Studio. The Studio is currently working with 12 companies and 15 inventors.

About the MDC Partnership
The Maryland Development Center, LLC Partnership, was created in 2016 in Baltimore to provide support for MedTech inventors and entrepreneurs to move their ideas from the laboratory into the maretplace. Baltimore was chosen because of the large research programs at the University of Maryland and the Johns Hopkins University Schools of Medicine. The model was to support inventors and entreprenuers by providing engineering expertize, business development services, and funding to create and support companies commercializing medical devices. MDC works with inventors to develop their ideas into working prototypes and marketable products and to form companies that will grow and create value for both their shareholders and society at large.
MDC is located in the historic Wilkens-Robins building in the heart of Baltimore, near the University of Maryland Medical Center, and Johns Hopkins University where MDC’s founding partners and affiliates practice, teach, and research state of the art surgery and medicine.
In 2021 the MDC Partnership formed the MDC Studio Baltimore to concentrate the MDC engineering and business development services in a corporate entity that would be available to investors who would like a "first look" at new technologies and companies. The Studio offers both common and preferred shares to investors. Since the Studio is in an Opportunity Zone, investments accure the favorable tax advantages of investments in OZ entities.
